The beginning of Queen Nala

Every great story starts with a companion who changes everything. For us, that was Simba: a furry friend, a family member, and the heart behind Queen Nala.
Meeting Simba
Let me start from the beginning. In 2017, we decided to adopt a cat. My family had always had dogs, but due to my demanding work schedule, I couldn’t dedicate the time a dog would need, so I opted for a cat instead. We visited a shelter full of rescue cats from the streets and difficult conditions. Among all the cats in the room, I spotted a tiny orange kitten, curled up and having the best nap, completely apart from the others. Instantly, I knew he was the one. We named him Simba.
Simba was really shy and didn’t trust people much. The shelter staff assumed he had experienced rough treatment before being rescued. With patience, love, and dedication, I slowly showed him that he was safe and cared for.
A Tough Lesson About Nutrition
We gave him the food recommended by the shelter, which was one of the cheaper options from mass-market brands. Since he was my first cat, I didn’t know any better and trusted that it was fine. However, two years later, Simba developed a serious stomach issue. We rushed him to the vet, where we learned that the food we had been giving him was high in fat and unsuitable for his health. The vet advised us to switch his diet immediately, and we followed their recommendation.
We adopted another cat a year later so Simba could have a companion. That’s when Nala came into our lives (yes, I’m a big fan of The Lion King). Because of Simba’s dietary needs, we decided Nala would eat the same food to keep things simple. For years, everything seemed fine. Then, when Simba turned five, we started noticing that he was losing weight rapidly. At that time, we were in the middle of a move, so the vet initially thought the stress of relocation might be the cause. But within a week, Simba’s condition worsened significantly. Another visit to the vet brought devastating news: in addition to his previous liver condition, he had developed more illnesses, all related to digestion and a genetic disorder. Despite our best efforts and the vet’s care, there was nothing more we could do. With our hearts broken, we had to say goodbye to Simba.
Heartbreaking Goodbye
Losing Simba hit us hard. He was so young, and though we knew he had a genetic condition, the rapid decline in his health was shocking. It was also terrifying for us as we realized that one of the factors that had likely accelerated Simba’s health issues was the food we had given him in his early years.
A New Mission: Queen Nala
Determined to ensure Nala’s well-being, I became committed to learning everything I could about feline nutrition. I read extensively and tried to understand how to provide the best possible diet for Nala. Although the market offered many different brands, only a few met our expectations for quality and safety. After countless conversations, hours of research, and a lot of reflection, my partner and I decided to create something better, an option that would help cat owners provide their pets with nutritious, high-quality food that supports long-term health.

And so, Queen Nala was born. Today, I dare to say this: Simba, this is for you.
